The purpose of this review was to provide information that can improve the effectiveness of primary health care services for socio-economically disadvantaged adults who are overweight/obese and have low health literacy.

Study questions:

1. What health literacy interventions for weight management have been found to be effective in PHC settings for individuals from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds in OECD countries?

2. What were the known effective drivers and barriers to the uptake and sustainability of the HLI for socio-economically disadvantaged people in OECD countries?

3. What it is about this kind of intervention that works, for whom, in what circumstances, in what respects and why?
